UMW Corporation hands over forklift to MPA

PictureMIRI: It was a historical day for Miri Port Authority (MPA) yesterday as it marked the official handing over and commissioning of   one (1) unit new 10 tonnes Toyota forklift truck from UMW Corporation Sdn.  Bhd (UMW Corporation). 

The purchase of the said forklift through an open tender was to enhance the cargo handling services to meet significant increase of cargo volume handled across MPA wharf over the years. The year 2010 saw an increase of general cargo by 37% (219,660 tonnes) compared with 160,181 in 2009; while containerized cargo increased by 24% (600,100 tonnes) in 2010 compared with  485,325 tonnes in 2009.

Presently, its fleet of MPA-owned  cargo handling equipment include one (1) unit of Mobile Harbour Crane with maximum capacity of 100 tonnes, two (2) units of 40 tonnes of Reach Stackers and about 10 units of forklifts with various capacities.  In addition, through the Integrated Cargo Handling Contract, MPA has a wider range of other cargo handling equipment of various capacities and sufficient supply of stevedores to handle up to 1 million tonnes of cargo. 

Present to officiate the handing over and commissioning of the 10 tonnes forklift truck were MPA’s Chairman YB Puan Rosey binti Hj. Yunus, MPA Board Member Capt. Bernard Idit, General Manager Encik Shebli Bin Hairani, the Management Team and representatives from UMW Corporation.
